Transcript of this episode:
Hey tribe, welcome to The Big Vision Show. Hey, I’m Max Simon, the host of The Big Vision Show and this is all about taking your big vision business and turning it into a living, breathing reality right now…which means getting your ideas into action.
The question today comes from Sean, what up Sean? Fist bump—yeah. He says he’s a product and service creating monster. You’re a monster? That’s kind of scary, Sean. “But I’m not marketing. So should I keep creating more content, or should I start marketing?”
So, correct me if I’m wrong, Sean, but what I think you’re really saying is, “I love to create things that help people, but I have trouble selling them and how do I move beyond my own fears and doubts and frustrations to start making money with this knowledge?” Huh, am I right?
So here’s the thing…almost everybody has that program or that product or that thing that they’re just working on and working on and creating because they just need to get it right.
The thing is, you can keep working on that thing until the cows come home—what does that even mean, the cows coming home? Like, where did that saying come from? I don’t want cows coming to my house, I’m a freaking vegetarian.
But, what’s really happening here is your fears of marketing and selling are getting in the way of you getting that product out into the world and keep you perfecting and perfecting and perfecting.
The Big Vision Idea is, learn to love marketing like you love your mission. Let me say that again, learn to love marketing like you love your mission. Marketing and selling is really nothing more than getting very creative with the way to share your message and your mission with other people and inspire them to invest and be bigger than their own fears.
So to make this simple on you, here are three big vision steps to get you rolling. Step one—become a recovered perfectionist, which means to stop believing that if you put just a little more work or a little more energy into creating that one extra thing, that it’s actually going to be that much better.
Instead, just get it done so that you can get it out into the world. Do it again. It’s to become a recovered….one more time. It’s to become a recovered perfect….Seriously? I have to do this again?
Because, here’s the other truth—the majority of things that you think are wrong or not ready yet, nobody else is going to pay nearly as close of attention to it as you are. They’re going to think it’s amazing.
Step two is going to surprise you a little. It’s to start having big conversations with people in your tribe right away. What you need to understand about marketing and selling is that it’s just about having conversations.
And the thing is most people are stuck behind their computer, just talking to a computer screen and that’s not when you really connect with people and inspire them to invest in your stuff.
In fact, my friend Eben Pagan said if there was one thing that he would suggest you do every day to grow your business, it was to talk to your potential clients every single day.
Because the truth is the more conversations you have with people, the easier it is for you to see what their problems are, what their challenges are, what their true desires are, and then you can create really compelling words and programs that strike the perfect chord with them.
And the third step is to realize that your information can’t help anybody if it’s stuck in your head. Ouch, that one should really hurt. So realize if you really, really, really want to start helping people, you actually have to start engaging and talking to them and getting out of your own little bubble—because that’s when you’ll feel that passion and fire to really get out there are market and offer your programs.
So the bottom line here is that it’s definitely time to start marketing and having these powerful conversations because that will get it out of your head, and out of your room, and into the world in a powerful way.
