5 Benefits of Asking for What You Want

So many of you shy away from asking for what you want. Fear of rejection, and lack of clarity around what you actually want are a few of the reasons why.

If you stay stuck there, you won’t receive, or you will receive a lot less.

Receiving is an extremely important aspect of giving, which is probably why you went into business in the first place… to give something important to the world.

The importance of asking for what you want has very little to do with you getting that “specific thing,” and a lot more to do with living in integrity, purpose and value.

Here are 5 benefits to asking for what you want in an aligned, meaningful way.

1. Increase your communication skills

The more times that you ask for what you want, the more you get to refine your communication skills.

Communicating your needs and desires assertively, in a direct manner will yield the best results. You will also begin to master the art of negotiation, when people say “no.”

Assertive communication, negotiation and compromise are all powerful entrepreneurial skills that will allow you to take your business to higher and higher levels.

Without them, growth is challenging.

2. You get more clarity on what you actually want

When you ask for what you want, and you get it, you are given a profound opportunity to either value or reevaluate your experience.

So often once we attain what we think we want, it ceases to carry the same meaning as it did before. You get to refine your vision if you realize that in fact, it’s not exactly what you thought it would be.

Or, you get to bask in gratitude of receiving something that truly adds value to your life, Either way, it’s a major win for you.

3. Opportunity to move through fear and insecurity

If you feel a little nervous about asking for what you want, whether it’s in a business or personal relationship, that’s great!

Any opportunity to show up powerfully through fear is welcome by entrepreneurs who truly want to go for it.

If you are feeling nervous or afraid, remember that it’s okay to be vulnerable while you are asking, but try not to let the fear control you into over-explaining yourself, or apologizing for asking.

You’ve got this!

4. You become more trustworthy

When you ask directly for what you want, it’s likely to increase other people’s experience of you as someone who is trustworthy.

People who hope for what they want, or hope someone will guess what they want and give it to them, don’t fully believe in their own power. And that is not trustworthy.

Your belief in yourself and your willingness to take a stand for what you want will position you as someone others want to conduct business with and be around.

5. There’s a good chance you’ll get it!

There is value in making a vision board, or visualizing what you want until it magically appears.

But it’s so much simpler just to reach out and be direct.

Even if all this other stuff really does work, asking is powerful, direct, and yields results!

Remember the words of Yoda “There is no try. Only do.” Go for it! You’ll be amazed.
