Learn From Our Mistakes. This Is How We Fail Fast.

July 6, 2012 Posted by The BVB Team

We are not afraid to come out and say…

We make mistakes in business every single week (or even every day).

And we thought, instead of hiding them, maybe you could learn something from them too.

So today, we’re giving you a behind the scenes, explicit look at how we drive this crazy vehicle called “Big Vision Business.”

And more importantly, what we do to shift gears when something isn’t working. Hopefully, you’ll learn as much as we do…

Flexibility is the Name of the Game

Here’s the back story…

Two weeks ago we took a giant step forward as a company.

We decided to launch several new projects all at once, (including this brand new website), so we could share with you exactly “What’s Working Now” in business and marketing today.

Initially, we decided to publish “How To” articles in interview format with top industry leaders.

The purpose was to inspire you into powerful action, while giving you the steps, structure, and support to clearly move forward in your business.

As an idea, we thought it was so fresh, so different. So on the cutting-edge.

And we knew it might be a major change, to go from the once a week Big Vision Show, to publishing interviews four times a week with high caliber industry experts.

Here’s what happened…

We Had Thousands Of New People Rush To Our Site

And that was awesome…

But something not so good happened at the same time… our engagement levels dropped way down.

Less comments. Less social media shares. Less feedback from the tribe.

That signaled a huge problem… because we are much more interested in quality engagement than random big numbers.

We’re in this Business to Make an Impact

When we saw our traffic increase, but our engagement, comments, and social media sharing decrease, we thought… “Something just isn’t right.”

Because we know that engagement = impact.

When you talk to us, that shows us that you are actually learning something.

That’s the whole point of “What’s Working Now.”

So we had a very raw and real meeting with our entire team and tried to figure out what needed to change.

We talked about how much we loved the content, because we were literally handing over wisdom from the highest level experts that you couldn’t get anywhere else…

But Something Was Still Missing

First of all, we realized our interviews were way too long. I mean, who has time to read that much every day?

So we shortened the posts…Then, we discussed how we could mix up the content a little so it wasn’t all just interview after interview.

We didn’t want to stop doing what we were doing entirely, but we were totally willing to shift gears at high speed… to create something that was even more valuable and important to you.

(BTW… don’t worry, you will still get the exclusive, behind the scenes interviews with people like John Assaraf, Mark Victor Hansen, and all the other major players as we promised.)

Just not every single day. Instead, once a week.

We decided that you might also like content on how to stay motivated in your business, a provocative rant where we really get into “What’s NOT Working,” and…

A weekly recap of what we’re learning inside our business. Things like how we are meeting challenges, expanding our vision, moving through obstacles and…

Still doing our best to maintain our values & integrity.

Our Big Take-Away From This Week

When it comes down to it, you CAN’T be attached to what it looks like… you have to be attached to achieving the outcome you desire.

What really works today might not work tomorrow. Period.

You must be adaptable and ready to do whatever it takes. Even if it means taking a whole month of momentum & planning, and saying: “Hmm… let’s go down a different path!”

Don’t get left in the dust because you had a great idea and you’re not willing to move forward by letting it go.

Reevaluate. Respond. Keep going. That’s what it takes to get it right.

So tribe, here’s what we want to know from you…

How do you feel about the content we’ve been producing for you? We’d love to hear YOUR thoughts on what you’re enjoying and what you’re not.
