Today, we’re talking about how to free up 40 hours a week of your time. I know you think it’s not possible, but it is.
Hi there, my name’s Max Simon. I dressed up for you today!
So here’s the problem. Everybody’s out there growing their business and working on all these things and the reality is you need help. You need more support, more team members, more contractors helping you grow your business. And yet, I know something after training thousands of people, which is that somewhere in your mind you’re thinking to yourself, “It’s too difficult to find good people, they won’t do as good of a job as I could, and I don’t have the money to pay them.” Let me confront those unconscious thoughts so directly.
Because the first thing you need to realize came from an interaction that I had from a dear friend named Vishin Lakhiani who runs an amazing company called Mind Valley. And Vishin told me once that he had this realization that no matter how smart, how intelligent he was, “There was no possible way to make the impact in the world and grow the business to the size he wanted, doing it by himself.”
And that if instead he simply started attracting and training people to do all the things that he was currently doing, he was able to actually able to make a much bigger impact in the world. I heard that and really took it to heart, like really took it in and realized that he was right. And what it also made me realize is that I, in fact, am dispensable. That the vast majority of things that I’m doing that I think I’m the only person in the world that can do, is actually just my own limitation. It’s just not true.
You have to realize that what you do is not so important that somebody else couldn’t do it as well. Just let it settle in and realize it. Because the truth is, “Anything that you are doing is something that you could either train somebody else to do or find somebody who is an expert in already.”
The second thing though , is to get really clear on what you want somebody to do that’s maybe not so easy for you, or is taking up a lot of your time. That usually looks like technology, and marketing and a lot of the admin and even bookkeeping. All those things are stuff that somebody else probably can not only do better than you, but would also be more effective in it as well.
And the third thing is to actually be willing to let go. I can’t tell you how many teams I meet where they’re behind the scenes going like, “Please, please – the boss has to, like, leave me alone,” because they’re so worried about losing control or things being done differently than the way they want them to, that you just micromanage like crazy. And when you do that, not only do you restrict their creativity, then what’s the point of having them in the first place? You got give it some space to breathe.
If you follow this wisdom, I promise you that the vast majority of what you’re doing now is something you won’t actually have to do anymore and then you can spend your time getting really creative and the other part of this is that when you actually follow this blue print, you’ll also find you attract amazing people who are so creative and imaginative and great at what they do because you’re giving them the permission to do it.
So, that’s what I have for you today. I would love to hear some of the things that you do to free up your time. I’d also love to hear what are the ways that you empower the people or the contractors that you work with to do what they do best. Leave a comment below. Nice ending!!:):):) LOL One of the things I have learned to do is to focus on people’s strengths and to appreciate them. There is a great deal of truth to the expression “Attention Goes Where Energy Goes” which I got from my coach Christine Kane. If I tell an employee that they are not good at something than they believe it. Of course this leads to poor quality and so forth…. If I focus on their strengths, give meaningful complements, and give them the freedom to create then miracles happen!!
I took a part time job to be able to find time to create more content. I hired a dog walker, house cleaner, and yard worker. Then I hired a web person to design and work with my website so I have more free time for content. As this business grows, I will look to hire more peeps for jobs like accounting and let them be creative!!!!!
That is such a great point Lauren… focus on people’s strengths and appreciate them. We do that to the 1000% degree here at BVB and it makes such a difference. THANKS for sharing. Really great post… Much love, Max
Hi Max,
This was one of the first lessons I learned when I was in the corporate world. Since I have started this business I have outsourced the web and social media activities and brought in a partner who I trained and now is capable of doing all that I do. So if I am sick or away, there is someone else to back me up. And I know there will be enough financailly for us both, even if it is not quite there when the decision is made. I love what I do and there is still lots of work to share with others.
Thank you Max.
beautiful Michael. great example and thanks for sharing! much love…
Thanks Max, you are tops! Love the violet garb…your best “work is play” color. People believe me when I say something because I am an expert intuitive. So, when I tell others who are helping me “wow you are so great at this or that”, I am actually reading them and validating all their good. So they trust me. Also, as certified belief work practitioner with lots of experience clearing dysfunctional stuff that is in the way, I would advise others to write down or contemplate the limiting beliefs they have, that you so clearly voiced, so they can start activating autonomous consciousness to clear the old information, and help them from higher-mind to get positive replacements of how to be in effortless creating, easy sharing and co-creating.
Max, I love this video. I have seen so many entrepreneurs that know that the thing that is slowing them down is not expanding their team. So, they get ready to grow, and expand, and then… they become fearful. They are afraid that they won’t find the right person. Or, they start fearing that they will hire a great person, will spend days and weeks training them, and then this great person will just end up leaving them. Or, they become afraid that they don’t really have the time and space to manage anyone, so maybe they should just… keep doing it all themselves. But then, I also know the true transformation that happened to me in my biz when I started expanding my team.
Since it is my mission in life to help entrepreneurs and business owners to learn how to find incredible teams really easily, I put together a short program. Yes, it is a gift for you too… You can grab it by clicking my name above. Keep in touch.
I suggest EVERYONE click on this link. Eyal provides incredibly rich information about building your team…
good reminders.
I have about 10 contractors doing various parts… including child-care fetching and housecleaning!
With my virtual v.a.’s I have a question about coordination.
I find weekly meetings with my techie v.a. super helpful in planning our week ahead. The others I just send tasks… but sense I’m not tapping into their gifts.
How much do you “meet” with your contractors?
if you’re feeling like there is more, there probably is. You might not need to do something on-going. Start by following your intuition. I would meet with each first and share what you’re feeling. See where it goes.
Your video and post deeply resonated with me. And I loved you goofing around at the end of an otherwise totally professional video – this really shows me how human you guys are.
The day I started getting help over the internet and hired an online assistant was the best decision I have ever made. I am sure this was totally unorthodox thinking. As a college student, I had almost no funding for that – but still went for it. I don’t regret a penny spent on my outsourcing experiments, even if they did not bring me much money to speak of until now.
But I learned a ton. And today, I have a small but strong and reliable team at my disposition. You cannot buy loyal friends working for you with money.
Max, I always get a lot of your posts. Thank you!
haha – I mean get a lot out of your posts.
Max,
Thanks for the constant encouragement. You got me thinking about this strongly. Lately, I’ve had some trouble with this, namely two students that continue to come to me, but are doing things that I don’t expect will work. They insist on doing them, however.
My students are the people that I try to give “permission” to. You may or may not recall that I am keyboard instructor. I already am quite different in that I allow people to play their favorite music, whatever it is. It’s just that the getting there is troublesome for me. The students I’m talking about above are working on things that I don’t think will actually work for them. Of course, they think so and continue cause I really can’t “micromanage” them. However, i do tell them pointblank that I don’t think that approach will work, based on my years of teaching experience with many many folks just as smart as they are. However, they are going to have to come to the same conclusions themselves.
This is sooooooo true. I’ve known it for ages, and still find it so hard to let go! Recently outsourced some work and it was such a big relief but still spend 90% of my time doing stuff that I shouldn’t be doing and very little time doing what I do best! Wise advice Max. Thanks. Going to do something about this NOW! Marguerita
I really enjoy the Big Vision Show. It does help me.
